CHEC is a support group for Georgia families who homeschool in Cobb and Paulding Counties.
In the 96-97 school year our group began as a ministry of Burnt Hickory Baptist Church and grew as they welcomed new homeschoolers into the group who were not members of BHBC. During the 2006-07 school year, our group had about 90 member families.
CHEC offers a variety of activities, fieldtrips, counseling, ideas, information, fellowship and support in your efforts to educate your child. We also act as a conduit for information about services available in our area available to homeschoolers such as special classes, sports activities, etc.
We operate a very active mailing list (on Yahoo Groups) that includes information about the group's current events, seminars and other events in the Metro Atlanta area. The mailing list allows members to ask for and receive support and advice regarding homeschool issues. It is also the primary means of coordinating activities with fellow member families.
Our Group functions as a CO-OP. This means that each family
of the group is required to volunteer a small amount of time in
order to support the functioning of the group. This prevents any
one small group from bearing the weight of the work for the whole
group.
